The Human Brain Proteome (HBP) portal is an insight into the in-depth proteome of human brain resulting from the Human Brain Proteome project, a collaborative effort between Institute of Bioinformatics (IOB), National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS) and Center for Systems Biology and Molecular Medicine (CSBMM).
This portal creates a reference platform for proteome profile of human brain from 32 neuroanatomical sub-regions, pooled from three individuals with no history of neurological disorders. We have profiled, 24 sub-regions derived from the grey matter and 8 sub-regions from the white matter tissue of the adult human brain using high-resolution Orbitrap Fusion Tribrid mass spectrometer.
HBP portal is an open public resource, containing direct evidence of translation of protein products derived from over 12,000 human genes covering more than 60% of the annotated protein-coding genes in humans based on the identification of 190,172 non-redundant peptides from multiple brain sub-regions. An extended arm of HBP is the Developmental Brain Proteomics, a temporal study of four sub regions of human brain from pre-natal to geriatric age groups. This portal is an interactive web interface developed by assembling the data from label-free quantitative proteomics of adult human brain and the TMT-based proteomics of developing brain. In addition, the portal provides best MS/MS spectrum of the inferred proteins with the information at peptide level and can be used for validation techniques such as targeted proteomics. This initiative aims to catalog the landscape of proteins across different sub-anatomical regions of human brain and its changes in the span of development.
